Crown Office Supplies vs Peak Discounters

Both are paid net-30 office supply accounts that furnish payment history to business credit bureaus. They report to different bureaus, and they handle the fee very differently. Here is the comparison, written by one of the two.

We are a competitor. That's disclosed, not hidden.

Read this before the comparison

We sell one of the two products on this page.

A comparison written by a competitor deserves scepticism, so here is exactly how we constrained ourselves. Every figure about Crown comes from Crown's own published terms, not from a review site and not from us. We have not independently confirmed Crown's reporting by phone with their credit department — where that matters, the row says so. We have included a section on when Crown is the better choice for you, and we mean it.

We take no affiliate commission from Crown or from anyone. If a figure below is out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

The fee — the biggest practical difference

Crown Office Supplies

$99

per year — non-refundable

The membership fee is not returned. This is the single most common complaint raised about Crown by its own customers, and it is not a hidden term — Crown publishes it. It is simply a real cost that does not come back to you in any form.

Peak Discounters

$49

per year — credited back at $250 of orders

If we don't approve your application, the $49 is refunded in full. If we do, it is credited back to your account once your orders total $250 for the membership year. On supplies you were going to buy anyway, the membership year effectively costs nothing. It renews automatically each year at the then-current annual fee unless you cancel before the renewal date.

Being precise about "credited back," because vagueness here is how this industry earns its reputation:

  • The $49 comes back as account credit toward supplies — not as cash to your card.
  • It is credited once your orders total $250 in the membership year — the merchandise total across every invoice you have paid, not counting shipping or tax. Ten $25 orders count the same as one $250 order.
  • If you never reach $250, you have paid $49 for the year. That is half of Crown's fee rather than none of it, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise.
  • If we decline your application, the $49 is refunded in full. You are not charged for a membership you cannot use.
  • Our minimum order is none, so reaching $250 is a matter of buying what you need, not of hitting a per-order floor.

These are not competing versions of the same thing

The comparison people usually make is $99 against $49. The more important line is the one above it: Crown reports to Creditsafe. We report to Experian Business. There is no overlap. You are not choosing between a cheaper and a dearer route to the same file — you are choosing which file gets built.

If that decision matters to you, the ranking that matters is roughly this. Experian Intelliscore Plus is the most widely pulled commercial score, which is the argument for our side. Creditsafe is a real and growing bureau, particularly in supplier risk and in international trade, which is the argument for Crown's. Neither of us touches D&B PAYDEX — if that is your objective, both of us are the wrong purchase and you want a D&B-furnishing vendor such as Uline, which is free.

The full list, with what each vendor reports to and how we verified it, is in our vendor directory.

About the SBFE claim

Crown's materials list SBFE among the bureaus it reports to. We flag this as unverified — and we apply the same flag to every supply vendor that makes it, including ones we are not competing with on this page.

The reason: SBFE membership explicitly excludes trade credit providers. A net-30 office supplier cannot be an SBFE furnisher in its own right. We cannot join SBFE either, and we are not claiming we can. Data can reach SBFE indirectly through a member institution, and that may well be what a vendor means — but "we report to SBFE" and "our data may reach SBFE through a member" are different statements, and the difference matters if you are paying for the first one. Ask Crown to explain the mechanism before you decide it is a point in their favour.

Which one you should actually pick

Choose Crown if…

  • Creditsafe is what you need. We do not report there. If a supplier, an insurer or an international counterparty has told you they pull Creditsafe, Crown does that job and we do not.
  • A published limit figure matters to you. Crown publishes a headline of up to $5,000. We set limits per account on review and do not lead with a number, which is more honest but less concrete if a stated ceiling is what you are shopping for.
  • You already buy from Crown. An existing supply relationship with real invoices is worth more than a marginally better bureau match.

Choose us if…

  • Experian Business is what you need. It is the most widely pulled commercial score, and Crown does not report there.
  • You would rather the fee come back. $49 — refunded outright if we decline you, credited back once your orders total $250 — against $99 that does not return in any circumstance — a $148 swing across a first year in which you buy supplies regardless.
  • You do not want a per-order minimum. Ours is none; Crown's is $30.
  • You want the reporting terms in writing before you pay. Our bureaus, our cadence and our limits are on this site, including the parts that do not flatter us.

Choose neither if…

  • You are after a PAYDEX score. Neither of us reports to D&B. Open a free Uline account instead — no fee, no minimum, confirmed by phone with their credit department in July 2026.
  • You are after Equifax Business. Neither of us reports there either. HD Supply does, for free, with a $50 per-order minimum.
  • You are being told a fee will produce a score or a funding amount. Walk away from whoever said it, us included.

What neither of us can promise

Crown cannot promise it and neither can we: a score, a number of points, a PAYDEX figure, a dollar amount of funding, a timeline, or an approval of any kind. A vendor controls what it submits. The bureau controls what posts to your file and what any score derived from it looks like. Anyone selling you the second thing is selling something they do not own.

In September 2025, Dun & Bradstreet was fined $5.7 million over how it marketed business credit building — a case about the gap between what was claimed and what was delivered. What we will state is our own process: we submit new accounts weekly and existing accounts monthly, to Experian Business. There is no minimum purchase or activity requirement for reporting, and the tradeline is the same for every member regardless of what they spend or pay us.

Common questions

Is Peak Discounters a good alternative to Crown Office Supplies?

For most people looking to build business credit through a net-30 supply account, yes. Both are net-30 business-supply accounts that report your payments to build business credit, but they report to different bureaus and price differently, so the right choice depends on which bureau you need and how the fee is structured.

Which business credit bureaus does each report to?

Peak Discounters reports to Experian Business and Cortera. Crown Office Supplies reports to Creditsafe. If you specifically need a tradeline on Creditsafe, Crown is the better fit; if you want Experian Business, we are.

How much does each cost?

Peak Discounters is $49 a year, refunded in full if we decline your application and credited back once your orders total $250. Crown Office Supplies is $99 a year, non-refundable.

Can I use both Crown and Peak Discounters?

Yes. Because the two report to different bureaus, using both puts reporting tradelines across more of your business credit file, which different lenders check.

Does either one guarantee approval, a score, or funding?

No. Neither Crown nor Peak Discounters can promise a score, a PAYDEX figure, a funding amount, or an approval. We report your net-30 payment activity, new accounts weekly and existing accounts monthly, to Experian Business, and a reporting tradeline is one factor lenders consider, not a guarantee.

$49, credited back at $250 of spend

Payment history furnished to Experian Business. No minimum order. No per-tier reporting. Approval subject to business verification.
