LLC status check, state by state
Losing good standing is the quiet way a business gets declined: miss one annual filing and the state changes your status without asking. Pick your state for its deadlines, fees and what to do if you've slipped, all from the state's own published rules.

Why your status matters to a lender
When you apply for credit, an automated verification system checks your business against the state's records before a person ever reads your application. A status like delinquent, forfeited or administratively dissolved is usually enough for an automatic decline — and the decline letter rarely tells you that was the reason.
The most common cause is boring: an annual report that went to an old address, or a fee that nobody remembered. It's fixable, and most states let you reinstate by filing what you missed.
State rules last reviewed October 16, 2026, from each state’s official sources (listed on every state page).
