7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our services and hold certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device.
You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our services.
8. Email Tracking
We want to be specific about this rather than leave it inside a general reference to “tracking technologies,” because it is the kind of thing people are reasonably surprised to learn after the fact.
Marketing and campaign emails we send you may record whether the message was opened and whether a link in it was clicked. Opens are measured with a small transparent image loaded from our server when your email program displays the message. Links may be routed through our own server, which records the click and forwards you immediately to the destination.
Each message carries a randomly generated identifier that lets us match an open or a click back to the send. That identifier is not your email address and does not contain it — it is a random value, so anyone who sees the tracking link in transit learns nothing about you from it.
What we do with it: measure whether a campaign was delivered and read, decide whether to send a follow-up, and stop contacting people who are not interested. What we do not do with it: we do not sell it, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use it to build a profile of you beyond your relationship with us.
How to switch it off. Most email programs block remote images by default or offer a setting to do so; with images blocked, opens are not recorded. If you would rather we did not track clicks either, you can copy a link and paste it into your browser instead of clicking it, or reply and ask us to stop — we will honour that. Unsubscribing stops the emails and therefore the tracking altogether.
Accuracy, honestly stated. Open tracking is not reliable. Mail providers and security gateways often fetch images automatically before you ever see a message, which registers as an open that never happened; blocked images register as no open when the message was in fact read. We record automated fetches separately from apparent human ones and we do not treat either figure as a fact about you.
Transactional messages — order confirmations, invoices, statements, password resets and account notices — are not marketing and are not part of any campaign. You cannot unsubscribe from them while you hold an account with us.
9. Children's Privacy
Our services are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
