New Jersey LLC status check
What keeps a New Jersey LLC or corporation in good standing, what happens if a filing is missed, and how to check your status yourself. Taken from the official rules published by New Jersey Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES), Department of the Treasury.
Check your New Jersey status
On the state’s own site: open the official business search (New Jersey Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES), Department of the Treasury). Search your exact registered name and read the status field.
The way a lender sees it: a lender’s system doesn’t just read your status — it matches your exact legal name, your filing, your domain and your email against each other. Run the same checks below.

Missed it? What happens, and how to fix it
If a filing is missed
No separate late fee is stated. An entity that fails to file annual reports for two consecutive years can be revoked: a domestic charter is voided, or a foreign entity's authority is revoked. Corporations can also be revoked for not filing corporation business tax returns.
Getting back in good standing
Reinstatement — state fee Domestic LLC: $75 plus all delinquent reports and the current $75 report; add a $20 tax clearance if revoked more than 2 years ago. Domestic for-profit corporation: $95 ($75 reinstatement + $20 tax clearance) plus delinquent and current reports. Add $25 to change the registered agent.. Start with an annual report through the online reinstatement service. If tax clearance is required, the Division of Taxation reviews for unpaid taxes before DORES reinstates the business.
Why lenders check this before anyone reads your application
An automated know-your-business check compares what you put on an application against the state’s record. A status that isn’t active and in good standing, or a legal name that differs from your filing by a comma or a suffix, is a common silent reason for a decline.
Fixing your status costs nothing beyond the state’s own fees; you don’t need to pay anyone to do it for you.
